Akshay Kumar has finally seen a solo hit post Singh Is Kinng (2008). In fact, Rowdy Rathore is Khiladi Kumar's biggest solo opening. The actor thanked his fans on Twitter: "I owe a HUGE thank you to my audience! You are the only reason behind the biggest opening weekend of my career.

Made in a budget of Rs. 45 crore, the film has already collected Rs. 48.5 crore in the opening weekend. Film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted: "#RowdyRathore rakes in Rs. 48.5 crore in 3 days."

"RowdyRathore Breakup:- Fri 15.1 cr, Sat 14.7 cr, Sun 18.5 cr +. Total:Rs. 48.5 cr + nett. Biggest non-holiday weekend. Fantabulous," he added.

His another tweet read: "#RowdyRathore Monday trends: Rocking... Expect a big, fat total on Monday... 'Wowdy' Rathore!"

He also pointed out that if only Friday to Sunday numbers are collated, Rowdy Rathore is a bigger opener than Agneepath. "#RowdyRathore has smashed previous records by a big margin. Collects a colossal Rs.48.3 cr + nett in its first 3 days. #RowdyRathore biz is *better* than this year's first Blockbuster #Agneepath, if one compares Friday to Sunday numbers... #Agneepath had advantage of 4-day weekend [Thu to Sun], so weekend total is bigger [Thu 23 cr, Fri 12.75 cr, Sat 14.5 cr, Sun 17.25 cr]."
The film directed by Prabhu Deva is also the third biggest opener ever. "#RowdyRathore is the third biggest opener ever, after #Agneepath and #Bodyguard. Incidentally, all three films are remakes!" the trade expert wrote on his Twitter page.

"#RowdyRathore *India* Fri 15.10 cr nett. Biggest non-holiday Friday opener. O-U-T-S-T-A-N-D-I-N-G," he added.

Trade analyst Komal Nahta thinks the film has the potential to cross 100 crore mark: "Straight B-L-O-C-K-B-U-S-T-E-R! That's what Rowdy Rathore is!! Next 100-crore film? All chances!"

It's Akshay's widest release so far as it opened on 2,800 screens in the country. Sonakshi Sinha is the female lead in the film. Co-produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ronnie Screwvala, the film marked Akshay's return as an action hero.

Has Sonakshi Sinha found a secret formula of success?
Sonakshi Sinha has entered the club of lucky Bollywood heroines with the huge success of 'Rowdy Rathore'. Like Kareena Kapoor, she also looks all set to feature in more than one film of Rs 100 crore movie club. Her association with Akshay Kumar in 'Rowdy Rathore' has been received with great enthusiasm at the ticket window. Sonakshi Sinha has tried her best to live up to the expectations in the film, but her role was kept confined to songs, dances and some romantic scenes. This situation poses a question on the utility of heroines in films with alpha male hero.
For example, take films such as 'Singham', 'Bodyguard', 'Dabangg', or 'RA.One', there were hardly any scenes for heroines to excel just on the basis of their acting prowess. Be it Kajal Aggarwal in 'Singham' or be it Kareena Kapoor in 'Bodyguard', actresses were presented as mere eye candies.
Sonakshi's character sketch in 'Rowdy Rathore' is almost on the lines of her 'Dabangg' character. She also hasn't tried to showcase her talent. It appears she is happy and contented as far as her films are minting money at the box office.
Celebrities at Sonakshi Sinha's birthday bash

Apart from '3 Idiots', every film of the Rs 100 crore movie club features superhero like males. 'Rowdy Rathore' is no exception. The film clearly relies on the shoulders of Akshay Kumar who kills at least five hundred people in the entire film. Akshay Kumar coupled with songs completes more than three quarters of the film. Rest one quarter has been divided among villains, Sonakshi and the establishment of basic premises. This compels the audience to think whether it would make any difference if any other actress replaces Sonakshi Sinha in the film.
Her next release is 'Joker', again with Akshay Kumar. After that, she will be seen in 'Son of Sardar' with Ajay Devgn. 'Dabangg 2' and 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2' are also expected to hit the screens in the coming months. She is working with A-list actors in these films, who have separate and well preserved fan bases. Normally, the directors don't like to play with the established image of the big actors, so, Sonakshi is likely to continue her usual earthy style.
Working with grade one actors since the beginning of career is not an easy feat to achieve, and Sonakshi should feel lucky about it, but at the same time this can restrict her development as an actor. The tendency of playing safe may harm Sonakshi in the longer duration if she wants to carve a distinct identity for herself. Sonakshi should seek an inspiration from Vidya Balan who has emerged as a powerful actor despite the odds in a hero dominated industry.
