Zeenat Aman's next movie on sexual torture of male models

Mumbai - Veteran actress Zeenat Aman has starred in a bilingual movie 'Strings of Passion' dealing with the unexplored subject of sexual torture of male models and extras.
Zeenat, 62, who acknowledged ignorance about such a practice, told the director of the movie, Sanghamitra Chowdhury, "Frankly, I did not know that it exists in our industry."
The yesteryear star plays the role of the mother of one of the three protagonists in the movie, which is a Hindi-English production.
"I had scripted 'Strings of Passion' based on my research and interviews of directors, producers, cast and wannabe actors in Hindi films, who had confided me on sexual exploitation of some male model-extras. These models are desperately in need to be in reckoning. Usually they are abused as gigolos," Sanghamitra said.
Sanghamitra said the title of the movie does not reflect the subject she is exploring in the movie.
"I had actually thought about 'Strings of Passion' as the story of three buddies Amit, Manu and Neel played by Trishan, Girish and Shubh respectively whose music band Strings Of Passion was the cementing factor," she said.
"As one key lyricist-member commits suicide, the friends meet after three years and relive their past. But from this story emerged a different tale as I could not keep the issue on the back-burner again," she said.
Zeenat, playing Manu's mother and a close friend of her son's group, is turning up in a Bengali director's work for the first time while 'No One Killed Jessica' actor Rajesh Sharma plays the father of one of the children.
The film will be released in January with Zeenat scheduled to come to the city to attend the premiere.

Bollywood actor Farooq Shaikh dies of a heart attack at 65

Dubai/Mumbai -- Indian actor Farooq Shaikh, the plump unlikely hero of scores of Bollywood films, has died. He was 65.
Shaikh suffered a heart attack Friday in Dubai, where he was visiting with his family.
Shaikh's career began on a high note with the 1973 new wave film "Garm Hawa," about the 1947 partition of the subcontinent at the end of British rule. His performance earned him a key role in director Satyajit Ray's "The Chess Players," about the decadence of India's feudal classes.
Shaikh's cherubic looks struck a chord with ordinary people who tended to identify with his man on the street image.
Bollywood reacted to the news of Shaikh's death, with several celebrities, including Amitabh Bachchan, tweeting their condolences.

Film industry condoles Farooq Sheikh’s sudden death
Celebrities including Amitabh Bachchan and filmmaker Shekhar Kapur on Saturday expressed shock at the sudden demise of veteran actor Farooq Sheikh due to heart attack.
Sheikh, 65, died in Dubai where he was for a concert. Sheikh was last seen in Bollywood movie ‘Club 60’
His co-star in the film, actress Sarika said he appeared to be in good health during their last meeting and they had planned to meet up again.
“It is shocking because he looked well when we last met about 10 days back. He seemed fine. We joked and chatted. He was a brilliant actor that goes without saying but he was a great man, a true gentleman,” Sarika told PTI.
“He loved food and that was the theme during the shooting. We all were planning to eat out when he returned from Dubai. He was great in ‘Club 60’. It was a one-dimensional character but he played it beautifully,” she added.
Megastar Amitabh Bachchan remembered Sheikh as a “true gentleman”.
“God !! Farooq Sheikh passes away!!? A true gentleman, a wonderful colleague! A quiet honesty about him. Very very sad!,” Bachchan tweeted.
Shekhar Kapur regretted that he should have talked films instead of politics in his last meeting with the actor.
“RIP Farooq Shaikh. The last time we met, we talked politics. I wish we have talked film and acting. It’s what we love most. I would have learned,” Kapur tweeted.
“RIP Farooq Sheikh. Immensely talented, extremely courteous. A thorough gentleman,” actress-turned-politician Smriti Irani posted on Twitter.
Actor Boman Irani wrote: “Farooq Sheikh passes away! Shocked, numbed and saddened. Was supposed to be shooting with him today. A gentleman actor is no more!
Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt wrote, “Alvida Farooq bhai the warmth of your smile lingers in our memory!”
“Year 2013 took away many talented people, and this time the veteran actor Farooq Sheikh. RIP Mr Sheikh,” Bengali movie star Prosenjit wrote.

Gauhar Khan wins 'Bigg Boss 7'

Mumbai Model-turned-actress Gauhar Khan won the seventh season of reality show 'Bigg Boss' on Saturday, pipping co-contestant Tanishaa Mukherjee.

Gauhar, who won Rs. 50 lakh in cash and a trophy, stayed in the house for 104 days.

"I Thank family for support. I am big fan of the show. I did not expect to come so far... till the finale," said Gauhar, who had won critical acclaim for her role in the film 'Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year' (2009).

During her stint on the show, Gauhar's romance with fellow contestant Kushal Tandon caught everyone's attention and the two openly declared their love for each other.

Last season, television actress Urvashi Dholakia had won the show. In the past, small screen actresses Juhi Parmar and Shweta Tiwari have come out on top in the show.

Tanishaa won hearts with her dignity and calmness and hardly instigated fights. She made headlines for her closeness to ex-inmate Armaan Kohli.

"I did not expect so much love. It was an unbelievable experience. I took a risk and it paid off. I made good relations on the show," Tanishaa said.

"I am happy to see my mother here. I love you a lot and missed you," she said.

Tanishaa's mother, Tanuja, who was also present for the finale, appeared emotional.

"I am proud of her. For me, she has won the show, even if she doesn't win. I used to see the show everyday. As I couldn't contact her, seeing the show was the only medium. Whenever she cried on the show, I also cried," said the yesteryears' actress.

Besides Gauhar, other contestants left in the house for the finale were Tanishaa, Sangram Singh and Ajaz Khan.

Sangram came out of the house first and was followed by Ajaz, leaving Gauhar and Tanishaa for the final reckoning.

While Pratyusha Banerjee and Kamya Punjabi danced to the beats of 'Dabangg 2's' 'Fevicol Se' with Salman Khan on the occasion, Elli Avram, one of the most-liked contestants on the show, danced to oldies like 'Yeh Mera Deewanapan Hai' and 'Hawa Hawai'.

Armaan Kohli seemed to be in a good mood and danced with Salman on 'Bodyguard's' 'Desi Beat' song.

The show featured superstar Salman in two roles, as 'Devil' and also 'Angel'.

Participants included Pratyusha Banerjee, Kushal Tandon, Gauhar Khan, Apoorva Agnihotri and wife Shilpa, Tanishaa Mukherjee, Ratan Rajput, Kamya Punjabi, Rajat Ravail, Hazel Keech, Armaan Kohli, VJ Andy, Anita Advani, Sangram Singh, and Eli Evram.

Deepika keen to work with Hrithik, Salman and Aamir!

Mumbai - After acting with popular actors like Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Ranbir Kapoor and Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone now wants to work with other superstars - Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan. "Every year I am asked this question (which Bollywood actor I would like to work with now), but I hope in the next one or two years I will get to work with Hrithik, Salman and Aamir," Deepika, who has given four back-to-back hits this year, told reporters here at her success party. "Till now I have not worked with these actors (Aamir, Salman and Hrithik)," she added. There are reports that Deepika has been roped in opposite Salman in Sooraj Barjatya's next, but Deepika denied and said: "That's not true and I have not officially met Sooraj ji." It's not just Deepika who is eager to work with Salman.
In fact, the Bigg Boss host has also expressed his desire to work with the actress and has been seen praising her on many occasions. Deepika said it feels great. "Definitely it feels great when Salman says such good things about me because if you all know he was the one who first noticed me," said Deepika, who made her Bollywood debut opposite Shah Rukh in 2007 film Om Shanti Om. "I was doing an ad with his friends in Rajasthan. So, he noticed me first of all and he was the one who offered me my first film," she recalled. Deepika, during her modelling days, had got an acting offer from Salman before she was chosen for Shah Rukh-starrer Om Shanti Om. However, the actress denied Salman's offer as she felt she was not ready to face the camera. Currently, Deepika has films like Happy New Year, Finding Fanny Fernandes and Imtiaz Ali's untitled film in her kitty. - See more at: http://www.bollywood.com/celebrities/deepika-padukone/news/deepika-keen-work-hrithik-salman-and-aamir#sthash.757WcmE5.dpuf

NRIs important to Indian film industry: Karan Johar

London, July 23 - Non-resident Indians are important to the Indian film industry not only as symbols and themes in storylines but also as a significant market for Indian films, according to noted director Karan Johar. Johar, along with leading lights of the Hindi film industry were here as part of the "BAFTA Goes Bollywood" event, which included screenings, interviews and workshops with Yash Chopra, Preity Zinta, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Johar. Several actors and directors stressed the growing importance of the non-resident Indian for the film industry. Shah Rukh Khan told newsmen: "NRIs have been important to me", while Yash Chopra added: "NRI market is as good to us as the market in India and Britain is number one for us". According to Johar, "We do not see NRIs as people who are separate from Indians. They are all Indians and in fact the NRIs are more Indian at heart then any of us in India".

The discussion on the subject - available on popular radio station www.nrifm.com - focussed on the NRI theme that was prominently portrayed in blockbusters such as "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayange" (DDLJ) and "Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham". Explaining his unique relationship with the NRIs, Shah Rukh Khan admitted that in many of his roles his character has been that of an ideal NRI son or an ideal son-in-law or an ideal lover. Yash Chopra said that his unique relationship with the NRI community began with DDLJ in 1995.

According to him, the time was just right - the age of video was declining; audiences were returning to cinema theatres; India was opening up and the NRIs were looking back towards their home country. In such an environment, DDLJ became a super hit. Johar said: "I make films for Indians, whether they live in New York or Bihar. NRI is a status not an identity. For us they are all Indians." Yash Chopra said: "'Veer Zaara' was the most important film of my life. It was the most authentic and positive depiction of both countries (India and Pakistan). Boundaries are man-made otherwise we are the same people; we have the same language, same family and same emotions." The trio strongly defended the Bollywood style of filmmaking packed with song, dance and melodrama. Yash Chopra and Karan Johar said that such films have to be long and they cannot make shorter length films just for the sake of western audiences. However, Shah Rukh said: "Filmmakers tend to get emotional about this issue but I am more practical in matters of length. I truly believe we need to make shorter films."

Dhoom 3 box office collection: Takes the box-office by storm, mints Rs 69.58 cr in 2 days, beats Krrish 3 and Chennai Express

Mumbai: It’s Dhoom-Dhoom all the way! The third installment of the franchisee has smashed all the previous box-office record to become the highest opener of all time. Aamir-Katrina starrer has minted Rs 36.22 cr in India.

Aamir Khan's 'Dhoom 3' has started doing wonders at the box-office. The film is doing a great business at the ticket window, and seems all set to emerge as one of the highest grossing ventures of 2013. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweets, "#Dhoom3 - India consolidated total: Fri ₹ 36.22 cr, Sat ₹ 33.36 cr. Total: ₹ 69.58 cr nett. Inclusive of Tamil & Telugu versions."
'Dhoom 3' has already become the biggest non-holiday opener in Bollywood till date, a record which was previously with 'Krrish 3'.
'Chennai Express' earlier held the record of biggest holiday opener as it was released on Eid. It had garnered Rs. 33.12 cr on the opening day.

“Dhoom 3″ already has become a hit in India, where local films tend to dominate the marketplace, with north of $6 million opening day alone. Globally, the film has well surpassed $10 million from markets including Pakistan, the Gulf and Middle East, Australia and the U.K.

As for Imax, the film is overperforming with approximately $500,000 from 25 locations, with only two to three showtimes a day since Saturday.

‘Bigg Boss 7’: Armaan Kohli evicted from the show

Mumbai: On Saturday's episode of Weekend Ka Wow Salman Ke Saath, following Kushal Tandon’s surprise mid-week eviction, ‘Bigg Boss’ has once again shocked one and all by eliminating inmate Armaan Kohli. With Kohli’s recent re-entry in the show after being released on bail in a physical assault case, it was believed that the actor would at least make it to the grand finale of the show.

According to a daily, the 41 year old actor is out from the final race to win the show. Kohli was one of the most talked about contestants of the show,

Armaan had all the ingredients of an entertainer on the TV show. He was short-tempered, fought with one and all and also had a romantic association with Tanisha.

Armaan got upset with Tanisha as she was cooking rather than spending with him in their final minutes before the eviction announcement. Armaan said, "Aapko paneer ki padi hai, abhi aap chale jaoge..Mujhe paneer ki jarurat bhi nai padne wali. I want to spend time with you." (You are more concerned about paneer than spending some time with me. In a few minutes, you will leave the house. I won't even need the paneer.)

Not to forget that Kohli’s journey in the ‘Bigg Boss’ house has not been a smooth and peaceful one! The credit also goes to his ugly row with almost all the inmates in the ‘Bigg Boss’ house.

With Kohli now out of the show, let’s see what he has to say on the accusations levelled by Sofia Hayat.

After the eviction, Tanisha, Aijaz, Gauhar and Andy remain in the race for Bigg Boss 7 finale.

Armaan Kohli will be missed for sure by his fans!

Dhoom 3: Day 1 Collections | Breaks all opening day records including Chennai Express & Krrish 3

Dhoom 3 Opens To Packed Houses At The Box Office

FINALLY the year’s much talked about film and the much awaited Dhoom franchise’s 3rd installment has released worldwide yesterday. As expected, Dhoom 3 is running to packed houses across the country.
As per early morning reports, this Aamir Khan starrer has witnessed an occupancy of around 90%-95% in majority of the cinema houses, while some key circuit’s theatres are also seeing as good as 100%occupancy.
Dhoom 3 is best performing in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi-UP, Mysore, Kolkata, Bangalore and Punjab.
Contrary to the belief that the film will remain only palatable to the multiplex audiences, it garnered wonderful response from the single screens too.
The film on its first day has managed to collect approximately 32 crores from its Hindi shows alone. Since the film released in Tamil and Telugu as well separately, the film earned another 4 crores from the vernacular releases. With that the film, as per early estimates, has on its opening day raked a stupendous sum of 36 crores at the domestic box office.
It is quite a commendable start as the film, being a non-holiday release, managed to beat Chennai Express‘ opening day record (which saw an Eid release). Chennai Express had so far held the record of highest opening day collections (33.10 crs) and with Dhoom 3‘s release, this film claimed its record.
Reports suggests that the film’s Telegu version is faring better than Tamil but in most mass based circuits, the film is determined to remain stellar with the chance of beating Chennai Express‘ record of fastest 100 crore.
Well, not just that, but as per early reports this Aamir Khan starrer has high  chances to create history by registering the highest box office collections ever on a single day, beating Krrish 3‘s record (35.91 crs).
Considering the phenomenal pre-release hype, increased price rates (which is almost equal to Chennai Express), ample number of shows in multiplexes, Dhoom 3 looks certain to collect in the range 29 crores-30 crores at the Domestic Box Office, unless the business witnesses a major drop towards the day end.

Movie Review: Dhoom 3: Nothing but noise and smoke!

'Dhoom 3' - The latest installment ups the ante as mean machines blaze across the screen in a dazzling display of stunt choreography. The dominant sound in Vijay Krishna Acharya’s “Dhoom 3” is the revving up of a bike. The bike never quite takes off though, resulting in a lot of noise and smoke, but not much else.

Hyped as the biggest release of the year, and as the slickest action thriller to come out of India, “Dhoom 3” turns out to be a damp squib. For an action film, there is hardly any action – instead the 172 minute film is laden with an insipid romance and many other distractions that add nothing to the story except lengthen it further.

Even the action sequences aren’t clever – the bike that Sahir (Aamir Khan) uses can apparently travel on water, fire and in air – can combine with another bike to transform into another machine altogether, and even straddle a rope across two buildings. If the film had gone on any further, it might have solved world hunger.

Inspite of this magical bike, on which Sahir makes all his escapes – all of which seem inspired from “The Fast and Furious” and the Batman films – the action looks slick only because the other side stares open-mouthed as he makes these apparently great escapes. At one point you want to shake Abhishek Bachchan’s character and say “do something, don’t just stand there!”
Bachchan plays Jai Dixit, the intrepid police officer, who is referred to as “India’s top cop”, and is called in to Chicago, along with his deputy Ali (Uday Chopra) to solve a series of bank robberies that take place at different branches of the same bank. The thief leaves a note in Hindi and a smiling clown mask as his signature, and always manages to evade capture, zooming away on his bike before anyone can sight him.

This invisible thief is Sahir, who owns a circus and nurses a grudge against the bank in question. When he finds out that Dixit is hot on his trail, he presents himself at the police station, claiming to have been acquainted with the thief and offering his help to the police. Up until here, the film trundles along fine, except for the minor hiccup.

But then Acharya plays his cards wrong – he reveals his biggest twist at intermission, and then plunges into a tragic family saga that is completely out of place in a film like this. What also weighs the film down is the clunky and cringeworthy dialogue – at one point Sahir’s assistant tells him about his inability to find a female performer for their circus saying “Is area ki saari hot Asian girls aa ke audition de chuki hai” (All the hot Asian girls in the area have already auditioned”.

Acharya borrows heavily from Hollywood films like “The Dark Knight”, “The Prestige”, and even Indian films like “My Name is Khan” to ultimately deliver a film that is entirely predictable. Unlike the earlier two “Dhoom” films, this one takes itself too seriously, forgets to have fun, and thus becomes a deadweight film that collapses soon enough.

Of the performances, Abhishek Bachchan tries hard to match the swagger that a police officer who is on the side of right should have, but fails. Uday Chopra, surprisingly has the best lines in the film, and gets away with a few laughs. Katrina Kaif is obviously there to show off her perfectly toned body, and to create a minor conflict in the film. As Sahir, the clown thief, Aamir Khan delivers his weakest performance yet. His menacing snarl comes off as comic and his emotional side comes off as fake. Whether it was a bad casting choice or not, he is far from convincing as the cunning, intelligent criminal.

Except for a couple of action sequences and a few laughs from Uday Chopra, there is nothing about “Dhoom 3” that justifies you buying a ticket to see this film.

In the whole DHOOM-3 fails to deliver what it promises.

I have no expectation from Dhoom-3: Aamir Khan

Superstar Aamir Khan says he has no expectations from his upcoming film Dhoom: 3 in terms of box office business, but is concerned about how the audience will accept the much-awaited movie.

"I have no expectation from Dhoom: 3 (about box office collection). I am not thinking about all this. It is important that audience should have a great time and love the film," Aamir said.

"Audience is not interested in numbers (box office collection) and even so I am not interested in it. It doesn't matter to me. I believe films should touch your heart," the

actor said. "Films like Mughal-e-Azam, Pyaasa touched me. I think films should be about story, emotions and not numbers," he said.

However, Aamir is worried about the fate of Dhoom: 3 and hence, has started smoking again.

"I have started smoking again because of tension for Dhoom: 3. I did not smoke in the last two years. I had quit it. I was on strict diet. Now, I am not only smoking but also eating lots of food. I want to give up (smoking). I want to be fit. I will give up after December 31," he said.

The actor said he was "extremely stressed and nervous" about the release of Dhoom: 3 and missing working with his team and co-stars.

"From December 13, we all will be together again and encourage each other," he said.

For the film, Aamir got lessons in tap dancing from Australian choreographer and renowned dancer Dein Perry.

He flew to the southern continent to learn the dance from Dein, who had choreographed the Sydney Olympics opening act and Happy Feet 2.

The actor had to learn the 'grungy tap' dance which is high on energy and more difficult than the classic tap.

"I took 45-day training for tap dancing. I am not a dancer, I feel Hrithik, Govinda or Shahid would have done a better job than me. I still haven't got it as I didn't have the luxury to practice for a longer period. I think to learn something like this perfectly you would need two years at least," Aamir said.

Aamir feels the mantra of promoting Dhoom: 3 should be to talk less about it and let audience take a call.

"We are banking on the creative side of Dhoom: 3. We believe in less is more. We don't want to go out and scream about the film. Today, the audience is intelligent enough to choose which film they want to go and see. We respect the intelligence of the audience. Marketing is something which is taken care by the producer and the director. If my suggestion is required then I give it," he said.

Aamir regrets that legendary filmmaker late Yash Chopra would not be there to see third instalment ofDhoom.

"Yashji won't be here to see the film and it is a huge regret. I wish he was here to see the film. I would have loved to see his reaction," he added.

Besides Aamir, Dhoom: 3 also features Katrina Kaif, Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra.

Releasing on December 20, the film has been directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and produced by Aditya Chopra.

Shah Rukh Khan tops Forbes Celebrity List for the second time

New Delhi Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan has been named the most powerful celebrity of 2013 by Forbes India for the second time in a row.

The 48-year-old actor has conquered the Top 100 celebrity list with the help of his popularity and earnings from his mega hit film 'Chennai Express' this year.

SRK continues to be on the top on the back of his earnings, even though star cricketers scored above him on the fame rankings, states the official website of the magazine.

The superstar has retained his No 1 position in the list, which also has names like Bollywood biggies Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif along with cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and India cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

The Celebrity 100 list is arrived at by measuring money (earnings estimates) and fame. Filmstars - all male, with the exception of Katrina Kaif, who is on number nine - dominate the Top 10 in 2013.

Cricket is the closest competitor to Bollywood and their stars' fame index is testimony to that.

Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni moved up from the third spot last year and has come in at the number two spot with his immense popularity and endorsement deals.

Bollywood star Salman Khan slipped from his second position last year and earned the third spot in the list. They are followed by Sachin Tendulkar at number 4, and megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who retained his position, completing the top five on the list.

Bachchan is followed by Bollywood action star Akshay Kumar, who has come in at number 6.

There have been two exits from the top 10 this time.

Actress Kareena Kapoor and swashbuckling cricketer Virendra Sehwag have made way for actors Ranbir Kapoor at number 8 and Hrithik Roshan at number 10.

Cricketer Virat Kohli is the youngest celebrity to make it to the top 10 this year.

Katrina Kaif is the only woman who has made it to the Top 10.

The other notables, who make it the list of 100 this year are cricketer Ravindra Jadeja (28), Shikhar Dhawan (39), Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy (52), Ranveer Singh (66), Prakash Jha (67), Singer-Composer Amit Trivedi, actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan and actress Sridevi.

Superstar Kamal Haasan didn't make it to list the last year, but the controversy and success of his film 'Vishwaroopam' ensured he was in at number 47. Sridevi has also made it to the list at 73rd spot.

Nearly a fourth of the list in 2013 comprises newcomers.

Kapil Sharma in Forbes' celebrity list

Comedian Kapil Sharma can pat himself on the back as he has entered Forbes India's Celebrity 100 list. A first for the comedian who worked his way into people's hearts with his show 'Comedy Nights With Kapil'.

Although the show's tussle with actor Sunil Grover over 'Gutthi' in the past few weeks had left the audiences with a bitter taste in their mouth, Kapil, the producer of the show with his entry in the coveted list shows the kind of power he wields.

Apart from Kapil, cricket's new poster boy Virat Kohli has reserved a spot in the top 10 making him the youngest one at the age of 25. After the success of 'Chennai Express', Shah Rukh Khantops the list with his net worth increasing for the year.

Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni has secured the second position while Salman Khan has slipped to the third. Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar who retired from cricket this year sits firmly at number four while Amitabh Bachchan is on number five.
